WATER ON THE GO — Water saving in trains

Water, the unbelievable element which the human despite big creativity and smartness is not able to produce or duplicate.

We have less and less

Not just small villages, but big cities and megacities face water scarcity already today. In the days of water shortage is the last we think about the possibility to avoid wasting, especially in places we are not calling our homes.

I came to this during one of my trips across the country, using the train as the most convenient vehicle (along with my EUC of course).

During the two, five hours of trips, using two trains of different operators, I have to visit the bathroom several times and I found out that water wasting is present even in the places which have limited volumes of water tanks capacity available.

No matter where I am, I do follow the 6R principles I designed for systematic waste prevention. So I did this time.

After finishing what I have to I pushed the button, which with delay, poured water into the toilet bowl before spilling it on the rail tracks.

After that, I washed my hands in a sink and the water spilled on the rail tracks

For the second time.

The water was needed twice, but in fact, a small change will do big change.

If I wash my hands first and the water from the sink is redirected to the toilet bowl? This will help me to save water. And not only me, many passengers means a lot of water saved.

You can see the 6R

  1. RECOGNIZE the process of wasting
  2. RECONSIDER what to do
  3. REALIZE the change

One and Two I did already and this article is the proof of realization. I share my ideas with many and believe it would be interesting not only for the producers of the railway cars but for the railroad operators so as for many others who search the solution to reduce water consumption.

Just think about how much water you will save in your home or company if you make this simple, but highly efficient step reducing your water footprint much strongly than if you switch from the bathtub to shower.
