THE WEIGHT
Yesterday I was helping to reorganize the inheritance of my GrandDad, who just passed away. He was never rich (financially) but his HUMANITY has been, among many others, represented by his love of books and this is why his library is filled with treasures.
If you look at the header image you will hardly recognize that a single book is not younger than a century and the oldest was published in 1886 already. The love of books came probably from his own father, who was a manual worker in a factory, at home he filled matrasses with African grass and he was an amateur theatre director as well, who spend part of his salary on purchasing a book when he can afford it.
All the books are in great shape because all who touched them know about the value we hold in our hands.
Because of the changes in the setup in the house of my parents where GrandDad spent the last 11 years 1 month and 11 days of his life after my GrandMum passed away after almost 70 years of marriage, we need to relocate the library and do so, need to take all the books out of the shelves and put it back in a new location.
During this process, I find out one very interesting fact
The old books are much heavier than the new ones printed and published in the last fifty, but especially in the last 20 years.
Not just for a few grams, which I will probably not recognize, but the weight was double, or even more.
The same was the weight of the library, which if from IKEA would one man be able to carry, but being almost 100 years old two adult men have a big problem moving.
I am living and working in houses build more than 100 years ago and the thick walls protect much better against weather conditions than the prefab walls of new houses built in the last 30 years.
An interesting fact is that bigger weight does not represent a deeper negative footprint set in the environment, in fact, the very opposite is the reality.
Every “heavy” product was created or built to exist forever, and serve for centuries, created by those who would shame to be part of THROW-AWAY-SOCIETY and to live in the WASTE AGE.
As you know the POWER OF TOUCH is one of the tools used successfully in INDUSTRY 5.0 projects. The reason is that you can feel the difference
The issue with the current tools and goals is that we set them and have no possibility to check personally if we go in the right or wrong direction
How do we feel the 1,5°C? How do we see the CO2 volume in the sky? How do we recognize META is best for us?
One by one we are being ripped off of the ability to utilize our senses
- our EYES are fixed on the displays
- our EARS is filled with plugs of the headphones
- our TONGUE is beaten down by the volume of artificial flavors
- our NOSE covered by FACE MASK filtering the smells
What remains are our HANDS and FINGERS and SKIN, which utilize the POWER OF TOUCH. The great about it is that the POWER OF TOUCH uses the SKIN and NERVES, which do represent the biggest area of our bodies, that we can use.
I am not sure when, but some time ago we start to call the REDUCTION OF WEIGHT of products and solutions, progress and development. From Glass bottles to plastic, from bricks to plasterboard, from coins to banknotes, and from banknotes to credit cards and virtual money. Every LIGHT food and drink is promoted with big money and the words NOW BETTER.
Frequently despite the fact that we can not touch the result, we pay a lot of money to own, what we will not own. NFT is a great example and for sure not the only one.
The weight of our bodies represents our being. The weight of the newborn indicates the probability of survival. The weight of the adult is a great indicator of a healthy or unhealthy life standard.
INDUSTRY 5.0 was born FROM VIRTUAL TO PHYSICAL, which means from NO WEIGHT to THE WEIGHT YOU FEEL. This is why it is so different and this is why the GIANTS fear it so much as expressed by one of the INDUSTRY 5.0 AMBASSADORS yesterday
