I had a great talk with the President of CABA Ron J. Zimmer, we spent one hour together online. Ron is not leading a country, he is leading “just” a 30.000 professionals global association which connects members through the knowledge and interest in SMART CONSTRUCTION AND BUILDINGS.

CABA

The reason for our discussion was INDUSTRY 5.0, which attracts Ron and we realized, we are speaking the same language and this is not English.

As we discussed we came again and again to the topic of the connection between SMART CITY and INDUSTRY 5.0 and I was asked to deliver my view on the topic in the form of an article, so here it is.

It is not the first time I deal with the SMART CITY environment, on the contrary, I am following and trying to be part of the movement since the very beginning and there are many reasons. One of the reasons is that I do not want that it would be only CEMETERIES that reflects the image of SMART CITY to generations to come. The question is WHAT MAKES CITY SMARTER? In contrary to many I do not rate the level of city smartness in the number, volume, and penetration of smart devices and IoT technology. For me, the smart city is a city in which WISE PEOPLE live. It is a city that prevents waste happens and I do not speak about preventing trash and physical waste only, but about all four types of waste INDUSTRY 5.0 recognize PHYSICAL-SOCIAL-URBAN AND PROCESS WASTE. I am happy companies so as individuals start to understand this.

To build or to turn the city into the smart one, it is important to establish harmony between humans, technology, and the environment. If the complexity would not be considered, the result would not be truly SMART, no matter how much money would be invested in the technology, if not set and included in the complex image, the money would be wasted, same as time.

Money can be funded again, but the time never comes back, not a single second out of it this is why I think it is so important to stop wasting the time following the wrong direction.

One of the wrong directions, from INDUSTRY 5.0 view is to follow ONE TECHNOLOGY or PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR ALL approach. No matter how clean the electric or hydrogen car, if only this technology would be available, it will be the issue. Same for solar PV, wind power station even a new straw. It is very close to the image of single-use what I see and single-use is the sign of failure.

The approach has to change and this is why I am so happy to meet CABA which I did not know about. It seems like it represents the platform for communication and harmony, connecting segments and industries before ignoring each other, helping to establish harmony.

This is the right way. INDUSTRY 5.0 way and I hope it is the way all would follow instead of one industry profitability only
