HACKATHON RESULT
One week ago from now the first and biggest EU COMMISSION hackathon finished. I am sure it was not the last one for many participated in providing ideas for free
The organizer did not speak about any financial reward at the time of registration, nor did the responsible EU commissioner spoke about it during the event, probably to surprise the selected winners at the end.
I already had experience with HACKATHON, share it before the event, but despite the negative feeling and experience, I register in 3 categories.
There are two reasons for that.
The first one is that I think every change and helping hand and idea is needed for the recovery, the second one is that for seven years I am already creating the wasteless world, which is the image of the after-pandemic world. The world without waste and wasting, the world created with the work of the hands and not with the money.
On May 1st, winners have been announced and to my surprise, just part of the winning projects get a financial reward. I would like to go in the next days one by one to see what valuate the experts most. In the few I saw already, it was not the readiness or stage of the project development, but the way participants presented the projects.
But this is not the case of all, for example, the winner in the HEALTH and LIFE category is the TEAM DISCOVER and project of Head on online monitoring device which helps to track permanently the health of patients, delivering data to nurses and doctors.
It looks great, especially if already awarded by another group of experts named EIT HEALTH.
The only question is WHY NOT ON MARKET?
The winner in the BUSINESS CONTINUITY is an APP, called LINISTRY
Once again virtual helper will save the real world and help business continuity. The team gets 3.000 EUR from EY.
I am just curious about the way the app will save businesses.
Checking one by one I do not only wonder How an app can save the world but what strikes me down is the fact that 99% of the mentioned winning team members have never been in the real business environment of the segment they solve. They have heard about, they read about, they studied the only small issue is that they did never spoke with the people who do the work they describe every single day, frequently for decades.
One example is the GREENBYTES PROJECT “solving the food waste”
How this can happen: Simple. The experts evaluating the projects frequently do not work in the field of expertise, in the meaning of doing the work, they write so nicely about. The authors of bestselling business books have to be good storytellers but not necessarily good businessmen or women.
People who award millions do not have to contribute to making them, they just have to be good at sharing them.
The first EU HACKATHON brings together 20.000 people, to prove how inefficient money and time are being spent by the EU and its officials.
The money will be sent to the accounts, not for the delivered and launched result, but for the idea and dream about the result.
