BACK TO ROOTS, HOW DEEP?
INDUSTRY 5.0 build on roots and in recent months I see more and more companies and individuals using the same words, the difference is usually the decision on how deeply to follow the roots.
We have softly touched on this topic in one of the INDUSTRY 5.0 TALKS with Bill McClain, but a much deeper investigation is needed because many aspects need to be considered including IP rights for example.
Two findings are maybe surprising
- deeper you go bigger the effectiveness of the work you find
- deeper you go less patenting hurdles you have to overcome
Let me elaborate on both.
Going back in history, we find fewer HIGH and more LOW-TECH, and despite that the cities in which we live and even the countries in which we have our citizenship have been established, built, and created using low-tech, not high-tech. No GPS, no land maps, no computers, internet, or phones. Despite all of that we live there and many houses for example have better insulation properties than the new houses.
All this means that people have to work effectively, to succeed, frequently having only one “lap” to deliver.
Patenting is not new, in fact, it goes back to the 16th, some say the 14th and some even speak about old Greeks but the change came in the 19th century with the establishment of the first PATENT OFFICE. From that time systematic PATENTING and PROTECTION OF IP RIGHTS can be tracked.
If you go deeper in history, you find no protection. What was developed and was good, was simply used. Usually, the creator (patent owner) was the one who sells the product that he or she has invented to generate money for his new invention. Some were more successful in inventing NICOLA TESLA, the others are more successful in the sales like THOMAS ALVA EDISON.
The fact is many of the inventions rated biggest in HUMAN history have not been patented at all like the WHEEL or the BED.
Patented are only deviations
The question, which is coming back to me every time we speak about patents and IP rights is WHY DO WE NEED THEM?
The “NEED” seems to be more the “INTENTION” to have paid work with limited liability, but a growing income source. Today and yesterday were this proven by a two-day online event by the European patent authority.
PATENTS are needed in an environment where no respect for the work of others rules, but money and personal profit rules instead.
It is a world of greed, personal interests, fast profit, and ignorance of the needs of others, a world “established” and maintained by the modern age economy and economists, who projected work and life into financial transactions. It is a WASTEFUL WORLD

As we follow the roots we will see the number of modern-age necessities disappear, the same as the offices of authorities, organizations, unions, laws, and regulations and at some point we reach TABULA RASA, which is the best point to start again, keeping in mind all what we have noticed and what seems to be so absurd standing at the beginning.
